Mother Earth News Fair! Day one - Before daylight after completing morning farm chores, I set out on the four hour drive from the Honey Milk Farms to Topeka, Kansas armed with lots of cold brewed coffee!
Arrived at the Expocentre just in time to listen to the first of many great informative
talks - Temple Grandin's "Improving Stockmanship." Learn more about this amazing lady and her work with animal behavior, humane handling and research at http://www.grandin.com/
Next on the list, I attended several other amazing and informative talks that included
Howard Garrett's "Natural Organic Pest Control," Dale Strickler on "Keeping Livestock Fed and Watered in a Drought," and Leo Sharashkin on "Natural Beekeeping that works." There were so many to choose from only wish I could have heard them all! In between talks I watched an amazing demonstration of working Border Collies by Mary Powell.
So many booths to see and visit.
With great deals on books on just about everything. Many of the author/speakers were on hand to autograph their books. Day two - I attended a hands on workshop "Mushroom Cultivation for Everyone" with Tradd Cotter who owns and operates Mushroom Mountain . I learned so much about mushrooms and I can't wait to grow my own! After the workshop, I again had to choose between so many great presentations. With only time for two, I attended "Choosing the Right Worm Bin and Species for Vermicomposting" with Joanne Olszweski and "High-Performance, Off-Grid Chinese Greenhouses" with Dan Chiras. A sampling of some of the wonderful stuff I brought back with me..... Thank you Mother Earth News for an incredible experience! I definitely plan on attending more in the future! |
